The word success is from the mid 16th century. It comes from the words succedere–>successus, which are Latin, and the old English word succeed. Then, pow, in the 16th century we have success.
Succedere = Come close after
16th century success = The good or bad outcome of an undertaking
Modern meaning of success = accomplishment of an aim or purpose
