How to choose NLP Training

Choosing NLP Training can be tricky, especially if you are new to NLP.

As you know we provide NLP training and highly recommend our courses. There are many different ways to learn NLP, some better then others and we hope this helps you to make the right choice for you.

We believe that NLP training to be an excellent investment of your time and money, so how do you choose.

Choose NLP Training

NLP training ranges from short courses to long course, there is however no agreed standards, although what has become accepted is the name for the different levels:

The Diploma is normally the first part of the Practitioner giving you the chance to find out if NLP is right for you without having to commit to a longer course.

The NLP Master Practitioner:

NLP Master Practitioner

The key to doing a Master Practitioner would be the advanced modelling project

• Modelling project
• Time line
• Advanced Values and belief work
• Core Transformation
• Advanced Anchoring

Train the Trainer courses:

• Stage skills
• Teaching styles
• Learning styles
• Formatting information
• Trainer identity
• Content knowledge

Be aware that the trainer programme is a balance between content knowledge and presentation skills. If a course is just an extended presentation skills programme then this is just 50% of the skills needed. You will have the opposite end of the spectrum where it is just academic. The key is the balance and this would mean spending time with the trainers personally and speaking to past students.

Training

The Practitioner can range from 7 days up to 21 days. There are benefits and down sides to these.

7 Day benefits include, less time off work or away from family and normally a dynamic learning environment.

21 Day benefits include, longer time in the class room and often spread over 6 months.

The down side to the 7 day training is when the training provider tries to do too much for example certifies you in hypnosis and Time Line within the 7 days.

The down side to the 21 Days is the long time commitment, and a tendency towards exercises being longer than necessary and long winded explanations so they can fill the time.

Also worth considering is how the training provider enhances your learning with CD, DVD, software and on going training.

The opportunity to retake the live training can make all the difference in your NLP ability. Some companies will charge extra to retake the course you have already paid for, so check this first.
We recommend taking a course three times. The first time you can only take in so much, the second time you will see new things in the training that you will swear was not there the first time and by the third time you will own the information.

It does not matter how long or how short a course is.

The quality of the trainer will have a major impact on your experience. Some things to consider:

• The ethics of the trainer
• Qualified to at least NLP Trainer Level
• Training for at least 12 months
• Teaching style that suits your learning preferences
• How the trainer handles questions
• Ability for one to one demonstrations
• Does the trainer seem to care about your progress and welfare
• Will the trainer give you one to one feedback at the end of the course

Group size:

There is no ideal group size. Groups can range between 8-400 (sometimes 1000’s) we recommend between 20 – 60 for Diploma and 10 – 40 for a Practitioner and 10 – 20 for Master Practitioner.

This will give you variety and the personal attention you would desire.

Distance you travel for training may be the best investment you make. Just because someone is close to you does not mean it’s the best training for you.

Some companies try to impress you with fancy hotels, which is often reflected in the cost of the course (a large percentage of your fee can go towards this). The question to ask yourself is this “is the room more important then the training?”

The venue should have room to move, be clean with local places to eat. Normally tea and coffee would be provided.

Qualifying bodies in NLP:

There are no official certifying board of NLP, there are a lot who claim to be. There is no reason to train with any one because of their governing body. A qualifying body is in itself no guarantee of quality.
Do your research and speak to the trainer. If they will not speak to you be wary, especially if you can only contact the sales team or staff from the office.

So is there any certifying body we would recommend? Yes, ANLP (ANLP.org) as they are independent of any training company.

We realise that this is just our opinion and we hope this has been informative. That by taking an NLP course can truly be transformative and start of a journey of self-knowledge and successful life.

All the best
